Champions League Player Stats

Understanding Champions League Player Stats

Some of the most readily available UEFA Champions League player stats are goals, assists and saves.

The player who scores the most goals at the end of the competition is crowned the Golden Boot winner. For Champions League betting, it’s key to understand which teams have the potential to go far and which players typically take penalty kicks for their teams. PKs can move the odds and the Golden Boot race in a player’s favor.

The player who is the best in the UEFA competition earns the UEFA Men’s Player of the Year Award for the season. Awards are also given out to the best goalkeeper, defender, midfielder and forward of each UCL season.

The stats relevant for soccer betting aren’t limited to the ones in match recaps. For example, it’s worth researching how a particular striker has fared versus the opposition in the past. The game is often won and lost in the midfield and getting an all around picture of a midfielder’s contribution is important. That could mean dribbles, chances created, aerial duels tackles won, etc. Save percentage and clean sheet percentage are important to research for goalkeepers but those are impacted heavily by the defense in front of them. So goals allowed minus expected goals allowed could perhaps be a better measure of their ability.

It’s certainly worth monitoring the players injured and suspended before betting on the Champions League. Soccer is about matchups and the absence of a key player will change the game and the point spreads as well.
