NCAAB Standings

Understanding NCAAB Standings

It’s as straightforward as the win/loss record and winning percentage of the teams. It’s also important to pay attention to the conference record, as well as the home/away record, and the current streak. Standings are determined solely by the team’s conference record, not overall.

College Basketball Format

The college basketball season isn’t long, running from late November to early April. The regular season is around 31-to-35 games, depending on the conference and on how far a given team advances in conference and national tournaments.

For non-“Power Five”-conferences, the conference tournaments often determine the sole berth in the NCAA Tournament. In other words, who gets to dance during “March Madness”.

For the non-winners, they are selected by a committee as an “at-large” bid, however, the majority of teams selected for the NCAA Tournament are from the Power-Five conferences, specifically Atlantic Coast, Big 12, Big Ten, Pac-12 and Southeastern.

NCAA Hoops (Non-NCAA Tourney) Major Events of Season

For about three weeks, the nation is overrun with March Madness. This single-elimination tournament pits the top-68 college teams in the country in the quest to become a champion.

The tournament is divided into four regions, with teams seeded one through 16. Previously, two 11-seeds games and two 16-seeds games are played (at Dayton, Ohio) in what’s dubbed the “First Four,” with the four winners advancing to the 64-team tournament.

NCAA hoops scores and standings are rocked frequently by underdogs, and not just during March Madness. Keeping an eye on your moneyline and point-spread wagering isn’t a bad thing.
