Recent Arsenal vs Manchester City betting previews have typically recommended staying away from Arsenal in this matchup.

Arsenal: Hit First Rough Patch of Season

Form (All Competitions): D,L,L,W,W
Injuries and Suspensions: M Emile Smith-Rowe (Day-to-Day), M Mohamed Elneny (Out), F Gabriel Jesus

Leandro Trossard’s first Arsenal goal was spoiled by Ivan Toney’s equalizer on Saturday as Arsenal drew 1-1 with Brentford. It’s the first time all season Arsenal have failed to win consecutive Premier League matches. Teams have found success sitting back vs. Arsenal in recent weeks but that’s certainly not what will happen on Wednesday. Still, the Gunners’ form is concerning as they’ve scored just once in their last three matches in all competitions.

Arsenal’s starting lineup has also logged a ton of minutes this season. Mikel Arteta has been reluctant to switch from what has most often been a winning formula. He could be forced into some changes to inject some dynamism into the team and Trossard for Gabriel Martinelli appears to be the most likely switch. The Gunners will still be missing former Manchester City forward Gabriel Jesus in this one. In this pick’em, Arsenal sit at +115 odds to cover and get their first EPL result vs. Man City since 2017.

If the Gunners can avoid defeat, it’ll mean a lot for their title chances. With a draw, they’ll lead City by three points in the EPL standings with one fewer game played. Arsenal also come in at +190 odds to defeat Manchester City on Wednesday and a win would put them six points clear. While Gabriel Jesus is out, Arsenal finally have a midfield trio that can compete with City’s.

Manchester City: Back on Track

Form (All Competitions): W,L,W,W,W
Injuries and Suspensions: D John Stones (Out)

Following a loss to Tottenham, Manchester City defeated Aston Villa 3-1 on Sunday. Still a very popular pick for betting on the Premier League, Man City are very much in the title race. Erling Haaland is in a bit of a goal drought, though. The Premier League’s leading scorer has gone three matches, in all competitions, without a goal. Man City have also dropped points five times on the road this season but are favorites for this match.

Pep Guardiola’s City are -135 favorites to cover as a pick’em. They’ve certainly enjoyed playing Arsenal in recent seasons but this isn’t the same Arsenal team that fell 5-0 in August 2021. Manchester City have also looked vulnerable this season and have recently lost on the road to Manchester United and Tottenham. They have scored the most goals in the league, with 56 through 22 matches.

Manchester City are also +140 favorites to win an 11th straight Premier League match vs. Arsenal. With John Stones out, Guardiola can call on any of Ruben Dias, Nathan Ake, Manuel Akanji and Aymeric Laporte at center back. He’s also experimented with formations following João Cancelo’s departure to Bayern Munich. Kyle Walker played at center back vs. Aston Villa and Guardiola managed to fit in nearly all of his creative players. Kevin de Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, Jack Grealish, Riyad Mahrez and Erling Haaland all started in the 3-1 win over Aston Villa.

What to Watch For

The last EPL meeting between Arsenal and Manchester City was a thriller. Arsenal led Manchester City 1-0 in January 2022 and battered them during the first half. City came back to equalize and Arsenal’s Gabriel Magalhaes picked up a red card. Rodri then grabbed a last minute winner for City.

Arsenal were also competitive in the recent FA Cup match vs. Man City, however, William Saliba struggled to deal with the physicality and aerial prowess of Brentford’s Ivan Toney on Saturday. Erling Haaland poses even more of a threat on Wednesday, especially with Kevin de Bruyne feeding him. Regardless, our Arsenal vs Manchester City betting preview notes that a draw shows a +255 price.

Four of the last seven meetings, in all competitions, have finished with two goals or fewer. Still, over 2½ goals comes in at -115 odds. Arsenal’s front three have put together some excellent pieces of play over the last few games, however, it hasn’t resulted in many goals and they’ve won just two of their last five EPL matches. A win from either team here would be absolutely massive in one of the most consequential matches of the season.
