EPL: Liverpool vs West Ham Odds, Preview

Intriguing Match at Anfield

Liverpool Remain Unbeaten

Just four unbeaten teams in the Premier League remain: Manchester City, Tottenham, Liverpool and Arsenal. After last season’s disappointing fifth-place finish, Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool look more like their usual selves so far. They take a four-game EPL winning streak into Sunday’s match vs. West Ham. The Hammers have only lost to Man City so far and are also looking strong. Following Thursday’s Europa League wins for both sides, we’ll take a look at the Liverpool vs West Ham odds.

LIV Liverpool vs West Ham WHU

Date & Time:
Location: Anfield, Liverpool, England

Head-to-Head:

This is the first of two meetings on the EPL schedule 2023. Last season, Liverpool completed the double over West Ham with a 1-0 win at Anfield and a 2-1 win in London. In fact, Liverpool has won 11 of the last 13 Premier League meetings between the two sides. Still, a one-goal margin has decided six of the last seven head-to-head matchups.

Liverpool Have Strength in Depth

Liverpool had a trip to Austria to face LASK on Thursday in their UEFA Europa League opener. Jurgen Klopp’s Reds fell behind early in the first half on a sweet strike from LASK’s Florian Flecker. Heading into halftime, Liverpool were behind heading into halftime, but a Darwin Nunez penalty 11 minutes after the restart leveled things up. Ryan Gravenberch, in his first Liverpool start, assisted Luis Diaz for LFC’s second goal.

Mo Salah, who came on as a substitute, added a late insurance goal to seal a 3-1 win for Liverpool. It was a good result, especially since Jurgen Klopp completely changed the starting XI from last Saturday. Liverpool also won that match 3-1, which was away at Wolves. While Gravenberch came off with a cramp on Thursday, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Thiago are both questionable for Sunday’s match.

Regardless, Liverpool strengthened their team over the Summer and has quite a bit of depth, especially in midfield. We can expect to see a midfield trio of Curtis Jones, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Alexis Mac Allister on Sunday. They should all be well-rested, as none of them started in the match vs. LASK. LFC is currently in third in the EPL rankings with a 4-1-0 record. They’re on a five-game winning streak in all competitions, as well.

Kudus Scores First West Ham Goal

Like Liverpool, West Ham fell behind in their Europa League opener. An Angelo Ogbonna error let TSC Backa Topola take an improbable second-half lead in their first-ever Europa League group stage match. In the 66th minute, Said Benrahma did some excellent work on the wing and whipped in a cross that a TSC defender sent into his own net. With the scores level, West Ham won a corner. Mohammed Kudus scored his first West Ham goal on a James Ward-Prowse delivery.

The Hammers doubled their lead as Tomas Soucek headed in another Ward-Prowse corner. After falling behind, West Ham managed a comfortable 3-1 win at the London Stadium. Ward-Prowse has been an absolute revelation for West Ham since joining from Southampton. The dead-ball specialist has two goals and five assists in just five matches, in all competitions.

Edson Alvarez has been another key addition in midfield but he missed Thursday’s match due to a suspension. He should be well-rested for Sunday’s match at Liverpool. Both teams scoring in West Ham matches has been a Premier League betting lock so far, as it’s happened in all five of their games. Here, the Liverpool vs West Ham odds do list the Hammers as sizable underdogs, though.

Match Analysis & Odds

Recall that the last four matches between West Ham and Liverpool have all been decided by a one-goal margin. Liverpool is a 1.5-goal favorite for this match and shows even odds to cover. West Ham lost 3-1 vs. Manchester City last weekend, but the West Ham +1.5 displays -120 odds. The last time the Hammers managed to win at Anfield was back in 2015. Here, West Ham are +550 moneyline underdogs.

Liverpool went an impressive 13-5-1 in the EPL at Anfield last season and are 2-0 so far in 2023-24. The Reds enter the match as -250 favorites, and Mo Salah has been in good form to kick off the season. The Egyptian superstar winger has scored twice and provided four assists in the EPL so far. Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez both also have two league goals to their names.

Draws have been few and far between in this fixture, but a deadlock is priced at +440 odds. Liverpool have scored 2.75 goals per game in their last four Premier League matches but haven’t conceded more than one goal in a match all season. The Liverpool vs West Ham odds price under 3.5 goals at -120 odds for Sunday’s matchup.
