Ligue 1 Matchday 35 Odds & Preview: Lyon Complete Incredible Comeback

PSG Closing in On Title

Lyon Complete Incredible Comeback

On Sunday, Lyon completed one of the greatest comebacks in Ligue 1 history. Down 4-1 to Montpellier in the 55th minute, OL scored four unanswered goals to win 5-4. Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette and Montpellier’s Elye Wahi both scored four goals in the match. Lyon still have hopes of qualifying for Europe this season but they’ll need to close out the season strong. Meanwhile, PSG closed in on the title with a 3-1 win over Troyes. While Lens and Marseille both look like they’ll clinch Champions League places, the other European spots are up for grabs. There are also four teams who could find themselves in the unenviable final relegation spot. In a weekend chock full of storylines, we’ll review the Ligue 1 Matchday 35 odds.

Games of the Week

LEN Lens vs Reims REI

Date, time:

Lens have Ligue 1’s longest active winning streak, at three games. They took a big step towards their first Champions League appearance for over 20 years on Saturday with a 2-1 win over Marseille. As three Ligue 1 teams qualify for the UCL, Second-placed Lens have an eight-point cushion over fourth-placed Monaco with four games to go. On Friday, Lens host Reims, who have lost three of their last four matches. Still, Reims have lost just four games on the road this season and their away matches have been the lowest scoring in the league. Reims’ road games have averaged just 1.94 goals this season.

The Ligue 1 betting odds price over 2.5 goals at -135 odds, though. Lens have averaged over two goals per game in their last five home matches and are one-goal favorites for this match. Lens -1 comes in at -110 odds, while the hosts also come in at -180 moneyline odds. Lois Openda scored the winner vs. Marseille last weekend and he’s scored 19 times this season. Four of Reims’ eight losses this season have come during the last seven Matchdays. Reims +1 displays -120 odds, though, and they’re +465 moneyline underdogs.

Reims have scored just twice in their last five matches and leading scorer Folarin Balogun is on a four-game goal drought. SRFC also have the youngest manager in European football, Will Still, who is just 30. While all of Reims’ starters are available for this match some reserve attackers could be out. Myziane Maolida, Noah Jean Holm and Mitchell van Bergen are all dealing with injuries. Reims also have the joint-most draws in the league this season and another deadlock is priced at +325 odds.

PSG PSG vs Ajaccio AJA

Date, time:

Paris Saint-Germain are just a couple wins away from clinching back-to-back league titles. On Saturday, they face Ajaccio, who will go down to Ligue 2 barring four wins in their final four matches. Lionel Messi earned a suspension for an unauthorized trip to Saudi Arabia but has reportedly formally apologized to the club. It is possible that Messi could return for this match, as he returned to training on Monday. It’d be a big boost for PSG’s offense if Messi returns. Even if he doesn’t, Kylian Mbappe has scored 24 goals this season and he scored PSG’s opener in their 3-1 win over Troyes.

Ajaccio are winless in their last nine matches and the Ligue 1 Matchday 35 odds price them as 2.5-goal underdogs. The reverse fixture marked PSG and Ajaccio’s first meeting for nearly eight years. PSG came away with a 3-0 win and haven’t lost to Ajaccio since 2006. PSG -2.5 shows -105 odds here, while Ajaccio +2.5 stands at -125. PSG are 12-2-3 at home this season but have only kept four clean sheets at the Parc des Princes. Under 3.5 goals display -140 goals here as Ajaccio have scored just twice in their last nine matches. In fact, Ajaccio have scored six goals fewer than any other team this season.

With Ajaccio’s struggles to score, PSG are -1000 moneyline favorites for Saturday’s match. Meanwhile, Ajaccio are massive +2300 underdogs for this match as joint-top scorer Youcef Belaili isn’t with the team due to disciplinary reasons. Bettors can also take a draw at +900 odds and a draw or loss officially relegates Ajaccio to Ligue 2.

BRE Brest vs Auxerre AUX

Date, time:

Brest and Auxerre have done their best to steer clear of the relegation zone in recent weeks. Brest are in 15th place, just three points outside of the drop zone but have lost just one of their last seven matches. Sunday’s opponents Auxerre are in 16th, one point behind Brest and have lost one of their last six. With difficult matches remaining on both teams’ Ligue 1 schedules, this is the best chance for either side to pick up three points. As hosts, Brest enter Sunday’s match as 0.5-goal favorites. They come in at +110 ATS and moneyline odds for this one.

Auxerre drew 1-1 at home with upstart Clermont on Sunday to end the visitors’ five-match winning streak. Auxerre are just 3-3-11 on the road this season but show -140 odds to cover the spread. They’re also +260 moneyline underdogs but are on a six-match scoring streak. Auxerre have also conceded in their last four matches as under 2.5 goals display -140 odds. Brest have conceded just three times in their last five games but are coming off a 2-1 loss to Lorient.

The reverse fixture finished in a 1-1 draw and another sits at +235 odds. It wouldn’t at all be a bad result for either side but both teams will be going for all three points. Brest are unbeaten in the last five meetings of this fixture as well. Jeremy Le Douaron is one to watch as the Brest forward has found the net nine times this season.

MON Monaco vs Lille LIL

Date, time:

In what’s expected to be one of the most competitive matches of the weekend, Monaco host Lille. Both teams are vying for European places as Monaco are in fourth place and Lille are in fifth. Monaco’s Champions League hopes are alive but slim, as they’re currently six points behind third-placed Marseille. Lille enter the weekend five points behind Monaco and need a win to stay in the hunt for the Europa League place. Notably, Monaco’s leading scorer Wissam Ben Yedder is suspended for Sunday’s match.

The Ligue 1 Matchday 35 odds show that visitors Lille are favorites for this match. In this pick’em, Monaco come in at even odds to cover and Lille pk displays -130 odds. Monaco striker Breel Embolo and defender Guillermo Maripan are also in danger of missing this match. As a result, Monaco sit at +170 odds to win Sunday’s game and Lille are +140 favorites. The reverse fixture was a seven-goal thriller as Lille came away with a 4-3 victory. The last three meetings have finished with three goals or more but under three goals stand at -125 odds.

Monaco have lost two of their last three matches but managed to defeat last-placed Angers 2-1 on Sunday. Meanwhile, Lille lost 1-0 to Reims on Saturday and have also been a bit inconsistent lately. All of Lille’s starters should be available for this match, though, which is undoubtedly tilting the odds in their favor. The last two meetings in Monaco have finished in a draw and another is priced at +270 odds.
