College Football: (15) Oregon vs Texas Tech Betting Odds

The Ducks put up 81 points against Portland State in their opening-week win.

The Oregon Ducks (1-0 SU 1-0 ATS) head to Lubbock to take on the Texas Tech Red Raiders, who were shocked as a 13.5-point favorite in Laramie against the Wyoming Cowboys (35-33 OT). Oregon is a 6.5-point favorite on the road this week, bet up from -3.5, with the total set at 66.5. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm ET / 4:00 pm PT and can be seen on Fox.

Let’s start our Oregon vs Texas Tech betting odds preview by looking at the Ducks from a betting perspective.

Bettors All-In On Oregon Early On

A few books opened this number up at 3.5 in favor of the Ducks, but they knew they were asking for trouble after Oregon slapped 81 points on Portland State, while easily covering a 48-point spread (81-7). 82% of the early money pushed the end-out number to a more reasonable 6.5.

If we’re being honest, it was shocking that Oregon wasn’t at least a double-digit favorite, but bookmakers know that what we saw last week doesn’t necessarily apply to what we’ll see this week, and we don’t make the College Football lines. It does feel as if the books are begging the public to take Oregon, so we’ll likely stay away from the side.

Over 31 years in Las Vegas has allowed us to know what a trap smells like from a long way away. Quarterback Bo Nix was spectacular, as expected, after throwing for 287 yards and three touchdowns being pulled in the third quarter. Oregon has now covered 8 of their last 12 games.

The Ducks are now 15-14-1 to the over in their last 30 games, indicating that they have produced inconsistent results. Let’s continue our Oregon vs Texas Tech betting odds preview by turning our attention to the Red Raiders.

Expect Improvement From Texas Tech

Anyone who has been in College Football for any length of time will tell you that a team’s most significant improvement comes between weeks one and two. The Red Raiders allowed 35 points on paper, but the reality is that 15 of that total came in overtime. What may look like a poor defensive effort really was not over the course of the day.

Texas Tech was the better team for much of the day, but missing three field goals proved too much to overcome, even after winning the turnover battle 2-1. Tech led this game 17-0 into the second quarter but then took the foot off the gas, scoring just three points in the final 45 minutes.

Since 2023, the Red Raiders are 16-15-1 to the under, showing that the oddsmaker’s lines are sharp, while Tech, like Oregon, continues to lack consistency when it comes to betting the total (6-6 o/u last 12 games). As we conclude our Oregon vs Texas Tech odds preview, we think we’ve found one of the best wagers in NCAA Football this weekend.

We’re Betting On Inconsistency

Both of these teams are in most College Football Bowl projections, but even an early season match-up like this can determine the quality of the bowl. For Texas Tech, an 0-2 start with a dicey Big 12 schedule coming up could spell a lower-level game or not one at all.

We expect Tech to play much better and for Oregon to come down to Earth, which is why we’re betting this game to go under the total of 66.5. You may be able to find a better number out there, but we wouldn’t wait too long because it appears the public is also on the under, which has driven this number down from the opening number of 68.5.

That does it for our Oregon vs Texas Tech odds preview, we wish you nothing but the best with your wagers this season.
