Tulsa Golden Hurricane 2023 Future Odds

Bowl Game Not Out of The Question

The Tulsa Golden Hurricane has been up and down during the eight years of Philip Montgomery coaching the team. Tulsa went to four bowl games and had four losing seasons. One of those losing seasons was last year when Tulsa was 5-7. In comes a new coach Kevin Wilson and an easier schedule. The Tulsa Golden Hurricane future odds are predicting another tough year, but the team may be better than many think.

Wilson Looks to Work His Offensive Magic

Wilson served as offensive coordinator at Ohio State for the past six years and knows something about scoring points. He brought Steve Spurrier Jr. on board to run the offense. The first thing the team needs to do is find a quarterback after the NCAAF rankings had Tulsa at No. 51 in offense last year.

Braylon Baxton is back after getting some playing time as a freshman after the injury to Davis Brin. Braxton was solid, throwing for 10 touchdowns and two interceptions. He added 145 rushing yards and five TDs on the ground.

Anthony Watkins rushed over 600 yards in 2021 but missed all of last season. Oklahoma State transfer Braylin Presley can play receiver or running back but should see more time at running back.

The receivers took a bit of a hit, but return Malachi Jones, who had 37 receptions for 470 yards. Tulsa will need a few of the younger players to step up and pick up the slack.

The offensive line is young but talented. There are no returning starters up front, but some of the guys did get some playing time last season.

The defense wasn’t that good and lost a fair amount of the talent it did have, but picked up some decent players in the transfer portal. The defensive line, linebackers, and defensive backs all got a boost from transfers.

Tulsa added six players via the transfer portal, including a pair of former Oklahoma State Cowboys in safety Kanion Williams and cornerback Demarco Jones. The Golden Hurricane also added linebacker Julien Simon and his brother, defensive lineman Jayden Simon, from USC.

National Championship Odds: Absolutely No Chance

The Tulsa Golden Hurricane future odds to win the national championship are +100000, which is standard for the teams with no shot. Tulsa was +100000 last year and will be the same next year. Reaching a bowl game is going to be a tough task for Tulsa.

Conference Odds: Highly Unlikely to Happen

The Tulsa Golden Hurricane future odds of +5000 are double what they were a year ago. Tulsa finished 3-5 in the American Athletic Conference. Granted, the conference is a little bit easier due to some defections, but the Golden Hurricane have nine team with lower conference odds. If Tulsa can finish .500 in conference play a bowl game is a possibility. But Tulsa doesn’t have the NCAAF players to compete for a conference title just yet.

Regular Season Wins: Tulsa With a Good Chance For 5 Wins

The win total for Tulsa has moved from 4 to 4.5, which definitely makes sense. The Golden Hurricanes have a good chance to win at least five games. Six wins wouldn’t be much of a surprise. Tulsa has several games where you know the college football scores will see them on the short end of the stick, such as early season games against Washington and Oklahoma. But there are also games Tulsa should win easily, such as Arkansas-Pine Bluff and a home conference game against Charlotte.

It’s how the Golden Hurricane performs in the other games that will determine the season win total outcome. Tulsa should win at least two of its three home games against Temple, North Texas, and Rice. That means Tulsa is going to have to come up with at least one road win against Northern Illinois, FAU, SMU, Tulane, and East Carolina. NIU and East Carolina present the best opportunities to win one on the road. If Tulsa wins two, a bowl game is a definite possibility.

The NCAAF expert picks like Tulsa to go over their total. The same value isn’t there as when the win total was at 4.0, but there’s enough of an edge to make Tulsa a play.
