Chiefs vs Vikings Preview: Are The Chiefs Overrated Heading Into Week 5?

Kansas City Has Played In Three One-Score Games in Its First Four Games

It’s been a rough year for the Minnesota Vikings. They’ve started the season 1-3, thanks to a win last weekend against the Carolina Panthers.

But even that win wasn’t too convincing. The Vikings defeated the Panthers, who are still winless this season.

Minnesota is going from playing one of the worst teams in the NFL to facing the best.

They’ve got the Kansas City Chiefs coming to town. The Chiefs are on a three-game winning streak and have been to the Super Bowl in three of the last five seasons.

Kansas City wasn’t at its best last weekend against the Jets. But Patrick Mahomes found a way and got the job done.

Can we expect the same result for the Chiefs against the Vikings?

Here’s a look at the Chiefs vs Vikings preview for this AFC-NFC matchup on Sunday.

The Chiefs Are 2-0 With Taylor Swift’s Appearances

Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift are reportedly dating.

Swift showed up to Kansas City’s home game against the Chicago Bears two weeks ago, and the whole world lost it.

Once word got around, many “Swifties” tuned into the game and boosted the ratings of the Chiefs’ win against the Bears. Kelce even scored a touchdown in that game.

Swift’s home base is in the tri-state area. Therefore, when the Chiefs had a road game against the Jets last weekend, she committed to attend for the second-straight game.

The result was the same. The Chiefs won. However, Kelce didn’t score a touchdown, and the win against the Jets wasn’t as easy as the one against the Bears.

Some people, including Travis Kelce, believe that the NFL is overdoing it with the Taylor Swift coverage. However, Taylor Swift just went on tour worldwide, and ticket prices ran up to four digits per ticket in almost every show. She’s a popular figure, and this helps the NFL market towards and completely different audience.

Of course, they’ll continue to talk about it!

The Vikings Want to Spoil The Taylor Swift Craze!

We don’t know if Taylor Swift will attend the game this weekend. But the Vikings players have already discussed putting a dampen on Kansas City’s day with an upset win.

Last week’s Sunday Night Football game was the most-watched show since the Super Bowl. There were 27 million TV viewers, with a 53% spike in viewership by 12-17 teen girls.

The audience among women aged 18-24 was up 24%.

The Vikings cornerback added that it would be cool to see Taylor Swift at the game. He didn’t mean it as a fan. He essentially stated that he would get his hands on Kelce and tell him something to get him going.

You know… the good ole trash-talking on the football field.

Murphy still admitted that he’d watched Swift since he was a kid and that seeing her at the stadium would be cool. He ultimately would love the extra attention, especially when the Vikings win. So he says.

Let’s look at the odds for Sunday’s Chiefs vs Vikings preview below.

Chiefs vs Vikings Preview

Although the Vikings are just 1-3 this season, they’re only 4-point underdogs against the Chiefs on Sunday. The total for this game is sitting at 52.5.

The Chiefs have won nine of their last ten games. The one loss came in Week 1 against the Lions. But they’ve only covered two of their first four games this season.

Kansas City has been a favorite in only one game of their last ten. That game was the Super Bowl, where they were a 1-point underdog with concerns over Patrick Mahomes’ health.

The Chiefs have hit the Over and Under twice to start the season.

On the other hand, the Vikings are just 2-7-1 over their last ten games against the spread. To begin this year, they’re 1-3 straight up and 1-2-1 against the spread. The lone win against the spread came against the Panthers after a 21-13 victory last weekend. The spread for that game was four points.

Furthermore, the Vikings have hit the Under in three of their first four games despite having some incredible offensive talent on the roster. The turnovers have ruined the fun for the Vikings this season.

The Chiefs and Vikings last played in 2019. These two NFL teams have also only played four times in history. The Chiefs have won three of those four games while also covering two of those four games.

Are The Chiefs Overrated?

The NFL scores for the Chiefs have been a bit sketchy to begin the season. The Chiefs began the season with a loss to the Lions, and they only beat the Jaguars by eight on the road in their first two games.

After that, the Chiefs dominated the Bears but struggled to close out against the Jets with a 23-20 win. Three of their first four games have been one-score games.

That’s why the NFL game odds this week for the Vikings at -4 could make sense.

The Vikings have a terrific offense that has earned 387 yards per game. They’ve just turned the ball over way too many times. It continues to happen, but at some point, it’ll all end. The Vikings have too much talent to continue dropping games due to turnovers. Justin Jefferson and Kirk Cousins are especially two guys who rarely make mistakes.

But Kirk Cousins has thrown four interceptions and has thrown a bunch of balls that his receivers have fumbled.

Minnesota’s coverage has been great. However, the pass rush hasn’t. Therefore, Patrick Mahomes, like he did last weekend, can escape pressure and make plays with his feet.

Mahomes doesn’t have a whole lot of talent at receiver. In the second half, Travis Kelce was held silent in last week’s game. It was mainly Mahomes and Isiah Pacheco’s rushing that got them the win against the Jets.

That will likely be the case against Minnesota in this game, too. The Chiefs have allowed more than 300 yards per game, with over 100 yards on the ground.

The NFL season schedule for the Vikings has been demanding. Meanwhile, when you subtract the turnovers, the Chiefs have ultimately looked worse as a team than the Vikings. The Chiefs can’t stop the run well and have missed countless tackles.

On the other hand, the Vikings are dominant in coverage but are also bad against the run. It’s just that the Vikings’ secondary has done more than Kansas City’s this season. Justin Jefferson will keep the Chiefs honest.

We won’t guarantee a straight-up win. But the Vikings at +4 at home makes sense.
