Raiders vs Packers Odds: Monday Night Matchup a Virtual Pick ‘Em

Jimmy Garoppolo's status still uncertain due to concussion

The Las Vegas Raiders will look to curb their three-game losing streak when they host the Green Bay Packers in Week 5 on Monday Night Football.

With Jimmy Garoppolo’s availability in question, bettors are treading carefully. After opening as +1.5-point underdogs, the Raiders (-105) are now a virtual pick ’em. Meanwhile, the projected total has climbed from 43 to 44.5 (-110 Over, -110 Under).

Here’s our game preview for a closer look at the matchup and a breakdown of the Raiders vs Packers odds.

Raiders vs Packers Betting Trends

The Green Bay Packers are 3-1 against the spread this season and 7-2 over their last nine games. The total has gone Over in eight of their previous 12 games. Meanwhile, the Las Vegas Raiders are 1-4 ATS in their last five games, including 1-3 this season. The total has gone Under in four of the Raiders’ last five games. That’s important to remember when assessing the Raiders vs Packers odds.

Encouraging Signs From Love

The Green Bay Packers fell flat in Week 4, losing 34-20 to the Detroit Lions on Thursday Night Football. A 2-point underdog, Green Bay dropped to 2-2 and failed to cover the spread for the first time in four tries this season.

Moving forward, much of the focus remains on Jordan Love. Despite struggling with his accuracy (56.1% completion rate), Love has shown some of the promise that made him the desired heir apparent to Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay. He’s already thrown for eight touchdowns, tied with Patrick Mahomes for the third most in the NFL per NFL stats.

This was supposed to be a transition year for one of the NFL’s most legendary franchises. And after four weeks, nothing we’ve seen changes that. The Packers have the second-best NFC North odds at +350, but they’re still +110 to make the playoffs. Even that seems a bit generous, given how little we know about Love.

Three seasons into his NFL career, Love, 24, is still very much an unknown. So, too, is some of his supporting cast. Green Bay’s top three receivers — Romeo Dobbs, Jayden Reed, and tight end Luke Musgrave — are all 23. Christian Watson, a second-round pick in 2022, is also supposed to be in that mix but missed the first three games this season with a hamstring injury.

Despite ranking 27th in the NFL in yards (280.8), the Packers are averaging 25.0 points per game. If nothing else, they’ve certainly been opportunistic this season. Keep that in mind when analyzing the Raiders vs Packers odds.

Jimmy G’s Status Uncertain

Missing Jimmy Garoppolo due to a concussion, the Las Vegas Raiders lost 24-17 to the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 4. Rookie fourth-rounder Aidan O’Connell started in Garoppolo’s place and completed 24 of 39 attempts for 238 yards and a touchdown. While he showed some encouraging signs, it wasn’t enough for the Raiders, a 6.5-point underdog, to cover the spread.

O’Connell also rushed for a 1-yard touchdown, the first of his NFL career. But he was sacked six times. If Garoppolo is unable to play this week, head coach Josh McDaniels will presumably turn back to O’Connell. The only other quarterback on the roster is longtime backup Brian Hoyer. For what it’s worth, McDaniels said Thursday that Garoppolo was still in the “final stages” of concussion protocol ahead of Monday’s game.

Garoppolo sustained the concussion in Las Vegas’ Week 3 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. He played the entire game, completing 28 of 44 passes for 324 yards and two touchdowns compared to three interceptions.

While Las Vegas invested heavily in Garoppolo last offseason, signing him to a three-year, $67.5 million deal after releasing four-time Pro Bowler Derek Carr, he’s primarily been a disappointment. Garoppolo’s six interceptions in three games are tied for the NFL lead. That said, it wouldn’t hurt to have him back healthy.

At 1-3, the Raiders have already dug themselves a hole in one of the most demanding NFL divisions, the AFC West. They’re currently a +475 longshot to make the playoffs. There’s not much upside here.

Handicapping the Game

Is Love Green Bay’s quarterback of the future? It sure seems like it, but the sample size is still too small to make a definitive assessment. That said, there’s just as much, if not more, uncertainty around Las Vegas. Will Garoppolo play? The extra day of rest should help, but concussions are tricky. Based on that, it’s hard to put most trust in the Raiders at the moment.
