USFL Week 8 Odds: Stallions Favored Over Stars

The USFL Week 8 odds are showing the Birmingham Stallions favored by 6.5 points over the Philadelphia Stars. It’s the lone game this week between two teams with winning records. The other games feature one of the three teams with losing records. This week’s games will be played in Birmingham, Alabama and Canton, Ohio.

Last week’s USFL scores saw 43 points or more scored in all four games. As a result, the totals are all 41.5 or higher this week. It’s not the most enticing USFL schedule this week. But there are a few interesting games on the slate.

Saturday, June 3

The Houston Gamblers (4-3) take on the Pittsburgh Maulers (2-5) to start the week. The Week 8 USFL odds have Houston favored by 3 and a total of 43. The Gamblers saw their winning streak end last week against Memphis. The Showboats scored on a 64-yard Cole Kelley touchdown pass with 1:44 remaining in the game. Houston held Memphis to just 146 passing yards, but allowed a big play when it mattered most.

The Maulers were on the short end of the USFL scores in a 37-31 shootout to Philadelphia. Pittsburgh’s points came on just 202 total yards. The Maulers returned a kickoff for one touchdown but still came up short. Pittsburgh can’t be counted on to score while gaining so few yards. Take the under in this one.

The Birmingham Stallions (5-2) are favored by 6.5 over Philadelphia (4-3) with a total of 45.5. The Stallions have won two straight, while the Stars have won three in a row. The Stallions led New Orleans 24-9 late in the third quarter and held on for a 24-20 victory. The Breakers outgained Birmingham 370-261 but had three turnovers in the game. Birmingham’s defense toughened up in the red zone. New Orleans had just one touchdown in four trips inside the Birmingham 20.

The Stars should have had an easier time with Pittsburgh based on the stats. But the Maulers were 3 for 3 inside the red zone, making the most of their opportunities. After an early slide, the Stars are playing well. This one could see some big plays, so the over is worth a good look.

Sunday, June 4

The New Jersey Generals (2-5) are favored by 2 over Memphis (4-3) with a total of 41.5. The Generals are in the midst of a four-game losing streak to fall into a last-place tie with Pittsburgh. New Jersey has a +0 point differential, so you would expect a better record. In their losing skid, New Jersey gave away a couple of games due to turnovers. But the Generals were outplayed by Michigan last week. The Panthers outgained New Jersey 373-258.

Memphis and Houston were pretty even in the stats department last week. The Showboats did have the running game going, as the passing game sputtered most of the contest. Memphis did get the big touchdown pass late in the game to win it. The Generals are a better team than they’ve shown and have to think they’re the right side here.

The Week 8 USFL odds have New Orleans (4-3) favored by 3.5 over Michigan (3-4) with a total of 43.5 points. The Panthers are coming off one of their best games of the season. Michigan shut down New Jersey’s rushing game and made the plays they needed to get the victory. Josh Love threw for three touchdowns in the win.

The Breakers probably deserved a better fate against the Stallions last week. But New Orleans left too many points on the field and didn’t capitalize when it mattered. The Breakers have been more consistent offensively and believe they’re the side to be on.
