Tampa Bay Lightning Betting Stats

As a relatively new franchise, the Tampa Bay Lightning is already one of the NHL’s most prosperous franchises. The Lightning have won a slew of Stanley Cups and have perennially made the postseason. Steven Stamkos leads in many Tampa Bay Lightning team stats, as he is just one of the many Hall of Fame-caliber players who have graced the franchise.

As one of the best-run franchises, bettors will find Tampa Bay with short NHL odds, whether it’s in the outrights or in the pre-game moneyline. It’s not often you find the Lightning as an underdog unless they are in a rebuild, which hasn’t happened frequently.

Tampa Bay Lightning Stats & History

The Lightning joined the NHL along with the Senators at the start of the 1992-93 season. And while the Lightning were not as bad as Ottawa, this team took longer to be decent. Tampa Bay would only make one postseason appearance in its first 10 seasons.

The on-ice struggles, coupled with the off-ice financial difficulties, made the Lightning’s future bleak. But 1998 would mark a turning point for the franchise, since the new transfer of ownership coincided with the team picking first in the NHL Entry Draft. Tampa would select Vincent Lecavalier, who would be the first piece to their rapid ascent atop the league.

And in 2000, Tampa would acquire three more important players: Brad Richards, Martin St. Louis, and Nikolai Khabibulin. John Tortorella would become the team’s coach in early 2001, and the Lightning would return to the playoffs in 2003 to win its first Stanley Cup in 2004.

This success would be short-lived; Tampa would lose several key players and undergo a period of change. The Lightning would once again change ownerships in 2007, Tortorella would depart, and Tampa would win the 2008 NHL Entry Draft to take Stamkos.

The 60-goal scorer would lead the Tampa Bay Lightning stats and captain them back to prominence, returning to the Stanley Cup Final in 2015. While the team lost to the Blackhawks dynasty, it would put together a dynasty of its own.

Tampa would acquire the likes of Victor Hedman, Andrei Vasilevskiy, and Nikita Kucherov and become a dominant force in the NHL. In the 2018-19 season, Tampa would become just the second NHL team to win 62 games, although they would shockingly get swept in the first round of the playoffs.

That embarrassment only motivated the Lightning more; they would go on to make three consecutive Final appearances from 2020 to 2022, winning two in the process. Even after their recent dynasty crumbles, expect the Lightning to continue being a formidable franchise.
